Top Must Have Travel Gadgets Under 50 Pounds/Euros

Whether you're climbing Mount Everest or spending a weekend in Paris, packing the right gear is a must. With the change in technology and the need to be charged and connected to the internet 24/7 travel has turned very electronic & it's more chargers and cables than books and road maps. We've been travelling for just over 6 years now and here's just some of our tried and tested must-have travel accessories for under £50/€50.

1. Anker Portable Charger Powerbank (Astro E1 5200mah external battery)

There's nothing worse than you being at one of the most beautiful places in the world and wanting to take a picture or be lost in the middle of a city and your phones died. It's important to keep your devices charged and Anker is the brand to go when you want a reliable and affordable portable battery pack, we use both the small Astro that charge your phone from dead 1-2 times regularly, then we use the Powercore 13000 and the bigger Powercore 20100 when we need to charge multiple devices and for the price tag we couldn't recommend them enough.

2.Huawei E5577 Black 4G Low-cost Travel Mobile WIFI Hotspot (MIFI)

Okay, you've got us it's not exactly under £50/€50 its little sister is though the HUAWEI E5220 at only £35 its a great way to stay connected when travelling, we normally use a Three 12GB SIM CARD which costs about 20 pounds which you put into the Mifi and it creates a wireless hotspot for 8-12 hours & with Threes Go Roam service it allows you to use that 12gb over 12 months in destinations such as USA/Europa/Indonesia (including Bali), Vietnam, New Zealand etc. (full list here) What the Mifi does is you can use a UK sim card such as the three sim card or an international sim once you arrive and it gives you access to the internet saving a fortune on roaming charges from your own network.

3. Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

It sounds so simple but whether your on a long haul flight or in a warm climate for us staying hydrated and healthy is super important, when we fly for long periods of time or are in the sun for a while we tend to get cracked lips so we find Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm is a life saver especially for under £3/€3. Or why not try the gift set.

5. Mpow Phone camera lenses

One of the best-priced user-friendly accessories we have bought in the last year has to be the iphone attachment lenses for your phone. We love to take photos on the go on our phones or post videos on Instagram and with these lenses it gives you change to shoot with a wide angle or fisheye. Of course, they aren't as good as a professional DSLR or mirrorless camera but for the money and size, its a handy gadget any professional or amateur photographer should have in their bag.

6. Travel Sleep Mask with Adjustable Strap and Ear Plugs

Your not yourself when your tired & there's nothing worse than travelling and not being able to sleep due to jet lag or street noise from your apartment/hotel. Somethings are just unavoidable when travelling, but if you have this wee handy mask & ear plugs combo there isn't anywhere you can't sleep. 7. Anker Bluetooth Speaker- SoundCore mini

Back to the guys at Anker for this one. Everyone loves a bit of music when your travelling, now, of course, don't be that person that plays some banging dance music on the beach when everyone is chilling out but if your in your hotel/apartment or travelling long term and want to rely on a decent, small, affordable Bluetooth speaker this is the one. We have the first generation sound core mini & its a perfect little speaker that packs a serious sound punch.

BUY HERE

8. APEMAN 4K Action Waterproof Camera

We all love sharing our travels & one of the best ways is with an action camera such as a GoPro, especially when you are at the beach or underwater the action camera is an amazing way to show your friends and family what you got up to but off course this is the best gadgets under £50/€50 so we decided to test out the Apeman action camera & to be honest we were very surprised. We have had every GoPro there is and really heavy on them for videoing underwater or just for a different angle that's not possible with a mirrorless camera. Know off course it's not as good as a GoPro but for 300 pounds cheaper it's definitely not far off. If it's just for you to or for Instagram it's more than enough, if you are doing videos for youtube or making money out of them then get a GoPro but if its value of money you want an Apeman is the way to go.

How to book cheap flights

Published in Travel Tips & Tricks

How to get cheap flights

Whether it's your first time booking your own trip or you’ve experienced the tiresome repeat flight searching to get the best possible flights, finding affordable flights can be overwhelming, but we’re here to help. Here are some tips that will save you time, frustration and most importantly money when booking your next flight.
Be flexible

It may sound simple but one of the main ways to reduce costs on flights is by having flexible travel plans, you can change your hotel/accommodation options to suit your budget but with flights its a very limited choice, you need to work around the airlines and find that perfect flight. Broaden your spectrum of dates/destinations/airports/flight times can really save you a lot of money. If you start with the mindset of; I want to travel to New York from the 3rd December- 6th December on an early direct flight in to JFK Airport more than likely it’s going to get expensive, but if you broaden your search to travel to New York in the first two weeks of December flying anytime during the day to any accessible airport with a maximum of 1 stop over you open a wide variety of prices for many different airports/dates/times/airlines. Flexibility is key with flights & can be the difference of saving hundreds of pounds.

Use the best flight search engines

So where do you start? your dates or travel plans are flexible, you're ready to start getting those cheap flights. Unfortunately, no search engine is consistently perfect although we find sky scanner to be the #1 choice, we would advise trying a combination of search engines to make sure you're not missing any results.
- Skyscanner (or download the app) - your starting point & first choice.
-Kiwi.com (combines all airlines to create routes that are cheaper than booking with just one airline & is our next go to after skyscanner)
- Momondo (a broad search engine that sometimes shows cheaper fares) check out our new TripFinder helper that makes it a little more user-friendly
-JetRadar (includes budget airlines, which many search engines don’t)
-AirWander (lets you extend layovers into stopovers to visit 2 destinations with 1 trip)
-Google Flights (good tool to quickly compare flights, also brilliant for free flight price tracking see more info below)

Track your flights & book at the right time

So when is the right time to book? To not sound cliche but the right time to book is when you're comfortable with the price before you plan on going away, set yourself a budget of what your willing to spend. There's no point in adding an extra stopover or flying with a budget airline if it's only going to save you a minimal amount. REMEMBER the hidden extras of flying; baggage fees, transport to that airport vs another, meals when travelling and of course time which sometimes can be the most important. All that said though, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a right time to book, if you have set dates & your fixed with your travel plans and destination we advice to book as soon as possible, but if you have flexibility we would say the best time to book is 6-8 weeks before your flight (off-peak) and 3 months peak times such as holidays/main months in summer.

One of the main ways we know when its the right time to book is through google flights, they offer a free flight trends overview of prices and let you track your flights free of charge. They will email you updates on a particular flight or route and the change in prices to your email, which has certainly saved us a fair few pounds for other holiday activites.

Befriend budget airlines

One of the best ways to get significantly cheaper tickets is through budget airlines but of course, this can come at a value of compromised leg room, no complimentary food/drinks & most importantly strict rules and regulations that you need to be careful of. Overall if it's for a short haul flight this may be your best option. We fly budget airlines regularly for trips under 4 hours & can't complain. In the day and age were you can get flights from the UK to Europe for half the price of a train ticket from London to Newcastle, you have to half a certain bit of flexibility with what you're expecting for your money. Not all budget airlines are on Search engines so here's a comprehensive list of some of the best budget airlines per region, check out their websites for prices & check whats included/excluded.

Top tips for booking with budget airlines
-Check where the airport location is (some budget airlines fly to airports further out of town).
-Ensure you’ve booked & paid for your luggage allowance. Adhere to restrictions on weight, height, and the number of bags allowed. Some airlines (e.g. Ryanair) will charge a hefty fee if you’re over.
-Print your own ticket- some airlines have printout fees which can sometimes be more than the flight.
In a nutshell, always read and follow instructions! & Tweet us @beattravelagent if you have any questions.

Discover nearby airports

Do you know what airports are near you? You’d be surprised how easy it is to get buses/trains to nearby main airports. Many budget airlines only operate out of the larger main airports so be sure to check. When on Skyscanner or other search engines click the add nearby airports button and see your nearby options.

Clear those cookies

Unfortunately, in this day and age flight companies save all our details so the more you look at that flight with certain travel booking companies and flight companies the price will go up. Use a browser such as google chrome or safari to go into Incognito mode to look like your a new customer.

Embrace the single life

Now don’t go leaving your other half at home, it seems some airlines, especially budget airlines seem to have tickets cheaper for single purchasers and seem to hike the price when you buy multiple tickets. So check the price first for your group then check it singularly and make sure it isn’t cheaper to book singly. Afterwards, in the checkout process, you can pick your seats so you and your family are sitting together.

Locate those airlines errors

Yes that's right, everyone makes mistakes and when it comes to flight companies this seems to also be the case, whether it be a system error, human error or a wrong currency conversion, airlines do make mistakes and there are websites out there to take advantage of them. Sites like Airfarewatchdog has a dedicated team of deal hunters, who frequently post to their deals blog and keep you in the loop, also check out SecretFlying & Fly4Free.

Use Air miles

If you thinking of getting a credit card or looking to get that free upgrade or free flight (minus taxes) Air Miles could be the next step to lying on that beach. There are many different companies such as AMEX, Chase, Flybe & MBNA who are providing Cards that both come with free air miles when you join & Air miles when you spend. Check out our article here to find the best card; as you may need to research what airline you plan on using or provides the most routes so you can spend those earned points.

Make an airline buddy

No, we don’t mean making friends with that passenger next to you on the plane (although why not), but rather make friends with the airlines. Subscribe to their email newsletters, join there reward schemes, follow them on Facebook/Twitter and keep track of the voucher code and deals. As many times a year airlines will have discounts and sales and their followers will have first notice of the deals. What we do is have a separate email address just for tracked flights & flight and hotel newsletters to make sure we keep on top of the latest offers. Also, make sure to check out HotUKDeals and Vouchercodes to see what deals and promo codes are out there before you book your trip.

If you can’t beat them join them

That's right, sometimes the travel agent is the best place to book a flight package, due to a lot of flight companies like Thomas Cook/Thomson Airways etc. owning their own airlines. They can offer undercut rates & run services to the busy destinations around the holiday times at a slight discount that other airlines providers, although that doesn’t make them the cheapest if your booking an all-inclusive or package holiday your cheapest option is probably going to the travel agents themselves. Still, price check the flight without accommodation and with it and see if they can beat or match your own quote.

Check back and track

So you’ve got yourself a good deal, your flights are booked but your a bit worried the price might change today or tomorrow morning, its not over yet though any ticket sold in the US, for flights from the US, even if they’re on a foreign carrier must allow for one of two things: a 24 hour hold guaranteeing your fare before purchase OR a 24 hour risk free cancellation entitling you to a full refund. This isn’t the full case in the UK but many airlines such as BMI, British Airways, Virgin & some easyJet tickets offer this service so that you can cancel within 24 hours. So what we normally do is set an alarm to check in 23 hours or so to see if there was any price change. Just make sure to protect yourself when booking anything for a holiday over £100 on a credit card to protect yourself under section 75.

Top Travel Hacks That'll Save You Time, Space, And Money

Published in Travel Tips & Tricks

Our Top Travel Hacks that'll Save You Time, Space, and Money
We have travelled in over 200 planes, 30 countries and 6 continents and we cold not count how many travel disasters we have had, but learning from our mistakes, we can give our top Travel hacks that’ll save you not only time and space but also money.

1. Carry a handy bag to increase hand luggage.

One of the simplest yet most effective hacks that we use almost every week on our travels is carrying a string bag or airport duty free bag with you when travelling as airplane fares are going down but airlines such as Easyjet are now limiting only one bag for hand luggage causing excessive charges for a passenger travelling with say a handbag and a hand luggage suitcase, but if you carry an airport duty free bag and put your handbag or other stuff in that they can’t refuse it on the plane.

2. Carry a multi-travel adapter.

When travelling to a country that uses a different plug type, bring one adapter and an extension lead or carry a handy 4 USB one international plug adapter to keep your devices charged. *check out our review of this handy affordable option*

3. Use any old card you have in your hotel room.
Many hotels now use a card system to keep the lights and plugs on to make sure you are in the room, but you don’t have to use the room key. You can use any card in it to keep your devices charging when your dipping down to the pool or have more than one guest staying. Our business cards work a treat ;)

4. Use your Hotels amenities to keep your clothes clean.
If you have been exploring a bit off the beaten track or have been at a music festival and your shoes have got dirty, use the hotel's shower cap to keep your shoes from dirtying up your clothes.

5. Use Netflix’s Download & Go feature.
We spend a lot of time on planes and in airports and it can sometimes get a bit boring. If you have a tablet or phone and use Netflix, you can now use their download & go feature to download your favourite movies and shows to keep you or your kid occupied on that 4-hour flight.

6. Use those shades to hold your phone up.
Okay, it's no Imax cinema experience, but you can use your sunglasses you’ve already packed to hold your device up when you're watching a film in the airport or on a plane.

7. Use currency cards or non-international fee cards.
Cards like The free Revolut Card or credit cards like the Halifax Clarity card offers you no fees when using your card abroad for transactions or with cash withdrawals and you also get the MasterCard exchange rate which is normally a lot cheaper than a travel currency exchange service.

Explore our section on Best Travel Money options

8. Book the window and the aisle seat.
One of the ways to maximise your space on that cramped Boeing 747 is by booking the Window and the aisle seat if your travelling in a pair. Normally then you will get the middle seat to yourselves, But worst comes to worst and somebody sits there you just ask politely if they could swap seats with your or your travel buddy to sit beside each other.

9. Go Ninja style when booking flights and Hotels
Unfortunately, in this day and age flight and hotel companies save all of our details so the more you look at that flight the price will go up. Use A browser such as Google Chrome or Safari to go in Incognito mode to look like your a new customer.

10. Don’t be that person holding up the Security line.
When we travel we buy sealable transparent food bags that not only are a lot cheaper than some airports bag fee, but it means we can pack our liquids before we even get to the airport saving time and stress when going through security.

11. Bring your own healthy food and empty bottle on the plane.
When travelling you're limited to how much liquids you can bring but not snacks. Save money by bringing your own snacks on the plane. Not only will they be cheaper but also healthy than the plane food reducing tiredness and jet-lag.
*Also when travelling most airports have water dispensers in the airport so bring and empty plastic bottle and fill your bottle up on the other side of security.

12. Make your hotel or apartment your own.
There's nothing worse than travelling to a foreign country and not having one channel in your own language. Most hotels now will have a HDMI cable slot that you can plug your laptop or device into to watch your favourite shows. Also, most TVs now have a USB slot that you can charge your device off as well.

Travalo The World- The Refillable Perfume Spray

Published in travel accessories

 Travalo Refillable Perfume Atomizer Spray
When travelling you want to look and smell the best but there's always one major issue with that; you're limited to what you can bring on a plane. This is where Travalo comes in, they have invented a 5ml easy fill perfume spray that even Ryanair wouldn't have an issue with size wise.

The Travalo perfume atomizer comes in 4 different models; Classic HD, Milano, Pearl and the Devine. All models come in various colours to match that perfect bag or purse. Made from Aircraft grade aluminum and totally free of glass this little friend is aircraft approved carry-on baggage.

We tested both the Classic HD and the Milano and true to Travalo's claims they really do refill in seconds. On the bottom of each Travalo Perfume atomizer, you will find a fillable hole which fits perfectly on nearly all perfume and aftershave bottles.

The Innovative Genie-S 'pump to fill' works a charm with just a number of pumps it transfers the fragrance from your unfriendly sized perfume bottle to a handy pocket-sized travel accessory.

We used the Travalo Milano for a recent trip and it lasted the whole 4 days of the trip and that's even with a generous respraying each morning, noon and night.

The only issue we were worried about was leakage and issues refilling which we've seen with other products like this. But overall we haven't had one leak. We actually found when playing about with the Travalo that not only can you refill again with a different perfume after cleaning but that Travalo has integrated a U-change removable inner vial to change in an instant.

Verdict
Both the Classic HD and the Milano are not only brilliant for travel but for everyday use in your purse, make-up bag, pocket or in your car. We love the idea of it and think it really is the future, the only issue that comes into question is the price but when you consider how much it costs for a large and smaller travel sized bottle of your favourite spray over time you really can see a massive saving not only in money but in space.

Anker Astro E1 - 5200mAh Ultra Compact Portable Charger

Published in travel accessories

Anker Astro E1 5200mAh Ultra Compact Portable Charger External Power Bank with PowerIQ Technology for iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Nexus, HTC etc.

Have you ever been on holiday, in university or out and about and had your phone die? I think we all have and this is where the Anker 5200mAh Ultra Compact Charger comes into play. Weighing only 119g and around the size of a small Candy bar, it's the perfect accessory to have in your purse, pocket or hand luggage to keep your phone charged not once but twice on the move.

Inside the neatly compact box, you will find the Anker portable charger, a micro-USB charging cable to charge it, instructions, an amazing 18-month warranty and a small soft pouch to keep the Anker portable charger safe and undamaged.

Anker is known for quality and this product is no different with a very good build quality, premium battery cells that last and a strong outer casing. In fact, we've had this product on beaches, bikes, aeroplanes, in the rain and in nightclubs around the world and it's as good as the day we first got it.

Built into this Charger is Anker’s PowerIQ technology which dynamically detects and adapts to your device’s unique charging protocol enabling it to charge at full speed.

We also use the Anker Astro E1’s big brother the Anker PowerCore 20100mAh which can charge your phone up to 7 times but is a bit bulkier than the Astro E1, so we prefer the size and durability of the Astro E1 and everyone in the team can’t leave anywhere without one.

Alongside the Anker Astro E1 5200mAh we also use the Anker PowerLine+ Lightning Cable & Anker PowerLine+ Micro USB which are as attractive as they are durable and will last you for years.

Verdict
The Anker Astro E1 5200mAh Ultra Compact Portable Charger is an essential accessory for anyone. With its simple to use plug and play option that even my mum could use, it's a one size fits all accessory. At such cheap price of £11.99, we would recommend nearly everyone to get one even just to have as an emergency or as a charger for when your little one's tablet dies.

Huawei E5577 Portable Mobile Wi-Fi 4G/LTE

Published in travel accessories

Huawei E5577 Portable Mobile Wi-Fi 4G/LTE
Whether you travel like Christopher Columbus or only travel once a year this accessory is not just perfect for travelling but for everyday life. The Huawei E5577 allows you to create your own Secure mobile Wi-Fi hotspot or MiFi as its commonly known now.

The E5577 follows the E5 classic design looking a bit like the predecessor models such as E5330, E5573 and E5377. Although the E5577 is thinner, faster and has better mobile capability up to 150mbps download and 50Mbps upload speed. It has been updated by the Huawei E5786 which can get up to 300Mps speed but after comparing the two, very little mobile networks are capable of that speed and you wouldn’t notice much different to say 140Mps to 190Mps.

Out of the box, the E5577 is pretty much ready to go, plug the sim card and battery in and follow the easy step by step guide. No wires, no software just a simple approach to getting the internet anywhere.

In the Box itself, you get the Huawei Mobile wifi either in black or white, a battery, USB Charging Cable, a quick start guide, and a safety information booklet. Separately you will need to buy a data sim from a mobile provider.

When the Huawei Mobile WiFi E5577 is on, users can see information from the screen such as the network providers, SSID, WiFi key, signal strength, SMS unread, battery status and WiFi connected users. The Huawei E5577 can support up to 10 wireless users to access the internet simultaneously. And one extra one could be connected with USB.

We have used the Huawei Mobile WiFi across Europe, America, and Asia and soon South America and have had no issues with over 14 different sim card providers. Although abroad isn’t the only place you can use them, In the UK we would use the EE or Three Sim card when we are in a coffee shop or somewhere where there may be wifi but it just isn’t fast enough. Just make sure to get an unlocked Huawei MiFi.

The Three 12gb- 12 months sim card is perfect for a low budget travel option due to being able to use it free of charge across Europe, Australia, Indonesia, The USA, Hong Kong and much more, (full list here).

The battery life when using it works for about 5 hours working time and 300 hours standby time. Coupled with a battery pack as it is Micro-USB this device is perfect for hours and hours of the internet when on the go.

If you are a serious traveller or have a weak signal and are thinking of using this device we would advise looking into a TS-9 Antena to boost your signal.

Verdict
Overall the Huawei Mobile WiFi E5577 is the perfect accessory to travel with if you rely on the internet as in this day and age, roaming abroad can cost a small fortune. The price tag can seem quite high and it may be better to consider the E5330 which has quite a modest price of £29 but only supports 3G.
The Huawei Mobile WiFi E5577 gets our first class rating and we would highly recommend it.

Top Beaches In The World

Published in Travel Tips & Tricks

Worlds Best Beaches
El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

Shockingly, Palawan remains steadily under the radar, even though this is the one of the most highly rated beaches in the world. El Nido alone is home to around 50 white sand beaches—it’s impossible to choose just one—all of which are set around dramatic limestone formations and boast the finest and whitest sand you’ll ever see. The water is so blindingly blue it makes the Caribbean Sea look murky in comparison, and the sunsets? Well, they’ll ruin you for life.

Playa Sirena, Cayo largo, Cuba
The highlights on Cuba’s Cayo Largo are its two western beaches, Playa Sirena and Playa Paraiso, where warm shallow waters lap ribbons of pale, downy sand. Sirena Beach is more geared up to tourism, with a café and water sports, while Paraiso is quieter and more private.

Glass Beach, Forth Bragg, Northern California
Forth Bragg sea glass beach is located in Northern California a few hours north of San Francisco. For many years, up until 1967, the city of Fort Bragg dumped trash over the bluffs right onto its beaches in three places. The discarded glass eventually was transformed into small, smooth, coloured gems. The pieces you’ll find are mostly clear, brown and green. Go after a storm, and you might score some rare sea glass colours.

Patnem Beach, Goa, India
